…Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him- Luke 11:5-6

Would I be so inconsiderate to pound at the door of my neighbor at night and woke up his family just to borrow some bread to feed my friend?  Couldn’t I just feed my friend some leftovers or snacks while making a simple and quick meal for him? Was my friend so poor that he couldn’t afford to buy anything to eat or he simply had no appetite for commercially cooked food? Why was this man so stubborn, as mentioned in Luke 11: 5-9, kept begging his reluctant neighbor bread? Could it be that this neighbor was the only one had the bread that his visiting friend needed?

Jesus is the living bread

John 6:33 said, “For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” Later Jesus admitted that he is the bread of life. Whoever comes to him will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.-John 6:35.

Only the Father can give us the bread of life

In other words, only our Heavenly Farther can give us Jesus. John 3:16 recorded that the Father loves the world so much; He sent His son Jesus to this world to save all those who believe in him.

An unexpected Visitor

The hungry visitor in this parable is obviously the one who sought desperately for shelter and special refreshment that his friend could not provide.

Jesus, a friend of tax collectors and sinners (Mathew 11:19)

Jesus often ate with tax collector and sinners (Matthew 9:11). We live among the unbelievers although we do not participate in their sinful activities, but we do have a duty to lead them to the Lord so that they could eat the living bread too.

Non-believers do not know that they are going to hell if they keep rejecting Jesus Christ. Many of them are desperate in need to break free from drug and alcohol additions, guilt, anxiety, depression, shameful immoral activities, ungodly thoughts, motives, and their deplorable life-styles, but they do not know that Jesus Christ is the only healer for all their sickness and imperfection.

None of our kind word and deed, strength, wealth, and even with our Bible knowledge can rescue one single lost soul, but Jesus.  There are people going to everlasting torture any minute; let’s keep begging the Father to give Jesus the living bread to entice them to eat before they leave this world so that they could live eternally.

So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
